Location

Paleochora is Crete’s gateway to the Libyan Sea. It is one of the most beautiful towns in Chania with extremely good weather where the summer lasts for over five months! Here, you will literally feel at home through the kindness and friendliness of the people, you will taste the delicious local cuisine while the beauty of the sea and scenery will literally sweep you away.
The picturesque village is located on a small northern peninsula surrounded by two exquisite beaches with sand and pebbles. On the other side, there is a rocky area and the marina. The distance between Chania and Palaiohora is a 75 kilometre drive enriched with the wild beauty that the Cretan scenery has to offer.

The coastline around Paleochora stretches for 15 kilometers offering a vast variety of beautiful beaches waiting for you to visit.
To the west, the notorious and exquisitely beautiful “Pachia Ammos” beach’s sands are interrupted by a few wild rocks. Should you choose to go east, do not forget to visit the beach called Chalikia. Both beaches are surrounded by verdant little trees called salt cedars and every year they are awarded with the EU blue flag for the quality standards that they both have. Also on the east is “Sougia” beach and in close proximity the uniquely beautiful and famous “Elafonisi” and “Balos” beaches.

Upon a hill in the village with mesmerizing views of the Libyan sea stands the historical fortress Castelo Selino or as it is called nowadays, Fortetsa, built by the Venetian duke Marino in 1278.

A true paradise for nature-lovers, Paleochora has numerous paths waiting to be explored but also unique gorges such as Agia Irini, Topoliana and last but not least the notorious Samaria gorge. Walk around this beautiful scenery, smell the local wildflowers, see the famous wild goats –called Kri-Kri and discover the lovely villages on the hills.
